The Great Outdoors: Mother Nature Is Calling You by Marlon Jackson
Camping is one of the great pastimes, and the United States is abundant with parks and campsites to entertain and amaze you. There’s so much more than just fishing. Swimming in hot springs and cool lakes is just one of the ways you can spend your time. The Great Outdoors offers endless possibilities.
With the help of the Internet and industry magazines it’s easy to research campsites around the country to help you plan your getaway. National parks are always quite popular, especially during the summer months. Yellowstone and the Great Smoky Mountains, for example, are two of the most visited national parks. Beyond the big-name parks you’ll find that there are lots of one-of-a-kind opportunities waiting. Throughout the year you can explore the Forty Mile Canyon in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Utah. The hike is challenging but doable as you wander among the trees and travel along Forty Mile Creek. For a little playful respite, you can wade or swim in a shimmering pool beneath the canyon’s 12-foot waterfall.
One of the biggest attractions to mountain hiking is the view from the top, and the San Gorgonio Mountain in California offers one of the best. On this popular Southern California trail you can hike up 11,000 feet over the sprawling multi-ecozone perch. You can admire the open sky as well as see down to the deserts of the Joshua Tree National Park below. Across in the east, spots in the Appalachian Mountains in Tennessee and the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina also provide spectacular views.
If you’re looking for unique camping opportunities, some campsites are just for you. Two great spots for a little nude bathing are Conundrum Hot Springs, Colorado, and Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, Michigan. Lake Superior offers a great atmosphere in its clean, freshwater depths for swimming and nature watching. The bright, clear sky of the desert is great for admiring the stars, and Mount Wrightson Wilderness in Arizona is an ideal spot. The bare summit lets you experience the Milky Way and beyond without any distractions. The Hawaiian islands are another hotspot to find plenty of exciting opportunities for excursions.
Outdoor entertainment is just waiting to be discovered by you. With friends or family or even a few strangers, you’ll have plenty of fun whatever you choose to do. From Alaska to Virginia and many places between, the US is full of excitement and wonder.
